The failure to provide pressure relief valves on plastic injection molding machines or extruders has been the cause of serious preventable burn injuries to operators when gas build up from the melting plastics or rubber causes an explosive eruption of molten plastic to escape the machine and seriously burn people working with the machines. These types of injuries are also foreseeable because of the nature of the manufacturing process and can be prevented by reasonable safety engineering in the design of the machines. When manufacturers fail to design safety into their machines and serious injury results, they may be liable.
